In this play, the sequel of the so-called Duke recounts the history of Pyramus and Thisbe, based on Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. In front of a high church tower built in a classicist style, a scene can be seen on the right, around which a large crowd has gathered. On the stage is a gentleman, Pyramus. Behind him are two women, one of whom will pierce herself with a sword (Thisbe) and the other will hold a scepter with a moon (Diana or Semele). Furthermore, a second gentleman (the wall) and a simple man with a branch in his hands, while a harlequin (the bookkeeper) reads the text from a roll of paper. On the far left of the stage a young lion. At the top of the stage set, which is built in classicist style, is a crowned coat of arms, held and quartered by two lions, four vases and a statue of Mercury. Right behind the decor a view of houses and carriages. In the foreground is a wall with a white fence and more to the left a well with a yoke, from which a woman collects water. Among the audience in the foreground are several farmers, one of whom carries a scythe on the back, a merchant woman with cherries and a tree covered with two fungi behind a left half of the composition, in which a gentleman and a lady. On the left in the background a hay field and in the future a lake and the profile of a city. In the far left foreground, next to a shelter, a boy, accompanied by a woman and a girl, beats a cake at an old man. Signed on the right. Painting is in a wooden frame, 1908.
